When should you watch this movie: When the world seems to have moved on without you.
The sell: This movie will break your heart but it is entirely worth it. Wes Anderson is predictably very Wes Anderson, but in this movie more than others, he takes on themes of global conflict and rising fascism. And he does so with stylistic flair that does not detract from the gravity of the issue. I am having a difficult time writing something succinct here because I genuinely love this movie so much I do not know where to start. I guess 1) Ralph Fiennes is a genius 2) Tony Revolori’s break-out role 3) A story within a story within a story 4) the colors! 5) Based on Stefan Zweig’s writings, which is on it’s own a gorgeous work of art 5) Hilarious 6) SO SAD 7) Has anyone written anything more poignant about love and loss in a time of political upheaval? Including the effects of the refugee crisis? I don’t think so!
