The sell: Best book adaptation ever? Possibly! This version of Roald Dahl’s classic is phenomenal in that it remains loyal to the source material while adding bits of story, character, and presentation that enhance the story telling in an exciting way. Using stop-motion animation, Wes Anderson creates an atmosphere (as only he can), imbued simultaneously with nostalgia and youthful energy. His version of Mr. Fox et al is sweet, charismatic, and just the right amount of pedantic. The voice actors disappear into their characters, which makes it all the more fun to realize later that Meryl Streep was in it. Alexandre Desplat wrote the soundtrack, need I say more? If you want proof, go on spotify, look up the soundtrack, play “High-speed french train.”
