Burn After Reading

The Coen Brothers think everyone is stupid and they might be right

MAYBE

Release Date: September 12, 2008
Director: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen
Language: English

Who should watch this movie: People tired of the same old spy movies

When should you watch this movie: When you want to see Frances McDormand and Brad Pitt act in the same movie as John Malkovich

The sell: Burn After Reading is a dark comedy of errors in which people’s seemingly innocuous mistakes domino into some pretty fucked up shit. The style is classic Coen brothers, with lots of swearing and smash cuts. Every character in this movie kind of sucks, which does add to the comedy but also makes it hard to root for anyone. This movie is like watching a car crash happen while chuckling a bit. That being said, Brad Pitt is hysterical in this movie. Everything he says and does – the physical comedy is also great – makes me actually laugh out loud.
