The sell: Tarantino ripped this movie straight from Lady Snowblood, a Japanese movie from 1973. I have half a mind to sue Tarantino for intellectual property theft on Lady Snowblood’s behalf. That being said, Kill Bill vol.1 is a good movie, even if it isn’t particularly original. There’s not much to be said for plot or for acting, but that’s not really the point. Watching Kill Bill is like watching a comic book come to life on screen complete with bright primary colors and tight shots of the characters’ eyes. The action is intentionally over the top and so is the gore. The saving grace of what could have been a one-note film is Uma Thurman and her uncanny ability to give exciting dimension to a character with uncomplicated motivations.
