Kill Bill: Volume 1

Tarantino hasn’t made a good movie since Reservoir Dogs, fight me

Release date: October 10, 2013
Director: Quentin Tarantino
Language: English

Who should watch this movie: People who have already seen Lady Snowblood. People who are not squeamish

When should you watch this movie: Drunk with friends

The sell: Tarantino ripped this movie straight from Lady Snowblood, a Japanese movie from 1973. I have half a mind to sue Tarantino for intellectual property theft on Lady Snowblood’s behalf. That being said, Kill Bill vol.1 is a good movie, even if it isn’t particularly original. There’s not much to be said for plot or for acting, but that’s not really the point. Watching Kill Bill is like watching a comic book come to life on screen complete with bright primary colors and tight shots of the characters’ eyes. The action is intentionally over the top and so is the gore. The saving grace of what could have been a one-note film is Uma Thurman and her uncanny ability to give exciting dimension to a character with uncomplicated motivations.
