A weird amount of butt humor
Release Date: December 25, 2009
Director: Rajkumar Hirani
Who should watch this movie: University/Graduate students. Anyone who grew up with strict parents. Anyone who was in chess-club in middle/high school.
When should you watch this movie: When you have three hours to kill. When you want to dance while watching a movie. When you can’t pick a genre.
The sell: 3 Idiots is ridiculous from start to finish but somehow pulls it off. The story is outlandish, the characters are absurd, and the production is over-the-top. Needless to say, subtlety was never the goal here. But somehow, watching these three actually brilliant young men struggle against social, familial, and academic pressure is contagiously heartening. What’s more is that they do not succeed alone. As corny as it may seem, the power of friendship is what pushes the main trio through daunting hardship, and their commitment to each other is nothing if not admirable. Through moments of humor and tragedy, 3 Idiots leaves audiences with the knowledge that our circumstances do not define us.
